Circle C Adventures a Schoolhouse Crew Review

The TOS Crew saddles up again to review a new adventure from Circle C Adventures with a new book from author, Susan K Marlow with Andrea Carter’s Tales from the Circle C Ranch. I received a physical copy of the book and a download of Andrea Carter’s Tales from the Circle C Ranch Learning Lapbook.

I love reading good wholesome Christian Fiction with my children. We all love history and horses in my home and Andrea Carter’s Tales from the Circle C Ranch is full of US History. My kids have read all of Susan K Marlow’s books to date and are always excited when I tell them we are going to read another one.

The book and Lapbook is intended for upper elementary and up. This could also be used with younger children as a read-out-loud. I think younger kids could also benefit from the Lapbook.

Andrea Carter’s Tales from the Circle C Ranch

This is a paperback book with 150 pages with eleven chapters. The book is divided into two parts. The Early Years and the In-Between Years. This is basically a lot of short stories that fill in many blanks from the other series and date in the 1873-1881. This makes a great companion to the rest of Susan K Marlow series that have Andrea Carter in them like Circle C Beginning series, and Circle C Adventures series. It answers the readers of the series questions about the stories.

I do feel that this book can be read as a stand-alone book without ever reading the other series. However, I think you are missing out on a great adventure not reading the other series as they are truly an amazing look at the 1880s US History and what life was like living on a ranch in California.

These stories are not just for girls as Andrea Carter has enough adventures to please them both. Bug my 12  year old daughter likes  the chapter, “Britches Are Not for Little Girls” and Little Man my 9 year old son’s favorite is, “Snakes Alive” both kids enjoyed the whole adventure.

The lapbook is a digital download with 39 pages. The lessons in the Lapbook cover several topics from snakes, General Stores, 4 th of July, clothing of the time period, science, and history.

The Lapbook is made to enrich the mini-stories in the book. Unlike other Lapbooks this just had a few things for each story. Which is nice because it was good educational information without being so much coming at you. I didn’t do the Lapbook with my kids as my kids just haven’t enjoyed them that much recently. Honestly, I think they have too much summer and creating their own adventures swimming around in their heads.

How did I use this in my Homeschool?

I read this as a read-out-loud to both kids. My 9 year old son is a good reader. My 12 year old daughter is a struggling reader with learning disabilities. That is why I choose to do this as a read-out-loud with them. Both of my kids are crazy about horses and get to go to a stable weekly and all the books from Susan K Marlow are always a big hit around my home.

My favorite part as a mom is that I know that I am reading a wholesome Christian fiction at its best. The stories have strong moral values, Christian lifestyle, and lots of adventure.

Thank you Susan K Marlow for another amazing story. Your books have brought much joy to my children, made them love books,  and have deepened their imagination to create their own adventures in US History!
