I’m Not A Scaredy-Cat by Max Lucado Book Review

Number one New York Times bestselling author Max Lucado will delight you and your family with the silly new picture book I’m Not a Scaredy-Cat. Laugh-out-loud funny, yet filled with an important message that God is near so there’s no need to fear, kids will learn to put into perspective those things that frighten or worry them.
My Thoughts:

Max Lucado has written many remarkable children’s book. I have several in our library that are keepers. Even through my kids are much older I can’t resist the lure of children’s books and even my older children can’t help but, to read this 32 page story.

This is a lovely hardback book with a dust jacket. Both the cover and the dust jacket have the same illustration on them. The vibrant illustrations will keep children looking at all the fun details while you are reading this story to them.

You are going to meet a kitten who is trying to be brave even though he is scared of everything. He has a prayer that he says to have courage:“God, you are good .God, you are near .God, you are here! And, God, YOU LOVE ME.”

The story is a sing song rhyming throughout with short sentences on each page. I love that Max Lucado is showing the little ones that we can pray when we feel scared or anxious. Scaredy Cat doesn’t overcome his fear but, he does find comfort while praying his little prayer.

We had a lot of laughs with this story as it came an interesting time in our lives. We had a stray kitten follow my son home a few weeks ago that happens to look like Scaredy Cat. Let’s just say that the little fellow we can call our own is a scaredy cat. He is scared of the vacuum, the water running, and lots of things. The story just felt extra special to us at this time.

This is a wonderful story that will make you laugh at this silly kitten that ends up in the oddest places. Most of all this is a great story for any kid and especially those who get scared easily. I have to say that I agree with one of the reviews that I seen about making Scaredy Cat into a stuff animal. I would add that you put a collar on his neck with the verse. This would be very comforting to a child who is scared of the dark cuddling with this cute guy.

Thanks for another wonderful story and I would highly recommend this story.
