The Pretender a Blackguard in Disguise by Ta’mara Hanson Book Review

The Pretender: A Blackguard in Disguise is the first volume in The Caselli Family Series. Set in South Dakota in 1975, where eighteen-year-olds could order 3.2 beer in a bar, and loaded guns were kept under the counter. Frankie Valli sang My Eyes Adored You, and American soldiers returning from Vietnam struggled with their new reality.

It’s within this tumultuous season of American history that Tillie Caselli meets Noah Hansen, and they are never the same again. Their lives were mysteriously intertwined – and had been for many years – yet they had no idea.

From the moment they met, Tillie and Noah wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, but a deliberate omission will keep them apart – and that same omission will be responsible for the escape of a murderer, and a bride’s deception.

These compelling stories are woven with Biblical truths and comical, real life events from the author’s own past. Easy to understand and relate to, yet fun and encouraging.

Global adventure, Italian passion, and an epic romance. Read The Caselli Family Series and you’ll never be the same.

My Thoughts:

I’m pretty predictable with my book choices. I get real tired of reading the same genre all the time. I have to confess that this is the first time I have ever heard of author Ta’mara Hanson. Quite frankly I didn’t have a lot of expectations from this story as I was expecting good girl meets bad boy and he changes his life because of her and they live happily ever after. Not my favorite type of a read but, a change of genre. I have to say that this story completely surprised me and I loved the story and the characters.

The love the Knight and Blackguard expectation from the Caselli family when choosing for potential future spouse. You are going to have to find out about it yourself in the book.
I loved the two main characters Noah and Tillie. The rest of the characters captured your heart quickly. I felt a full range of emotions with some of the characters choices. The story was a page turner.

Some of the plot was a bit cheesy. Like how quickly Noah and Tillie feel in love instantly and how the relationship quickly went south and Noah didn’t know how to find her. With such a short relationship how it changed both of their lives so drastically. Regardless of the cheesy plot I couldn’t help but to feel so invested into the characters and their story. I wanted to yell at Tillie for not investigating a huge misunderstanding that she witnessed. Then Tillie putting down her paint brush just because of her broken heart just drove me crazy in the story.

Regardless this story and the character weaved their way into my heart and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
