Heart of Lies by Jill Marie Landis

This is from the Irish Angel Series Book two. Maddie Grande was raised in a tribe of street urchins, at a early age she was taught to be a thief and a beggar in the streets of New Orleans.

After her tribe leader dies her and her so called adopted twin brothers leave the city and move to the bayou. Maddie loves the life out in the bayou. Her brothers are not home often and she desires to leave behind her old life and change her pass mistakes. Her brothers have different plans which Maddie has very little say in the matter. The twins kidnap a eight year old from a wealthy family for the reward money and they leave her in the care of Maddie as they head back to the city to collect. The eight year old escapes and Maddie must find her first before the law does. If she doesn’t this spirited eight year old can identify those who have kidnapped her

Pinkerton agent Tom Abbott is assigned to the kidnapping case after the current case of searching for a clients sister seem to be pointing to Maddie as an accomplice. Tom and Maddie find that they are attracted to each other. Which Tom is a man of honor and principle and Maddie is a thief and a lair.

This journey takes them on an adventure that neither one of them expect. They have to look inward and examine their hearts. They can’t trust each other so how can they even trust their own hearts.

This was a good book. The characters where down to earth and you could feel their conflicts that they are facing. The book is predictable and you can see where the story is leading throughout the book. I will have to read the first book in the series, "Heart of Stone"
