Awhile back I was asked if I would be interested in doing a review on a praise CD. I had a choice of either Stand Up! Big Band Praise or World of Praise. I choose the World of Praise Instrumental Hymns CD, from Mark Baldwin. The CD is published by Discovery House Publishers.
I love hearing music from other cultures praising my Lord and Savior Yeshua (Jesus Hebrew name). As a homeschool family we already study different cultures/countries. I love to add music of the culture/country to the study. Usually, I can only find folk music to our lessons. I love it even more when it is praise music from another culture/country. What better way to introduce your kids to praying for the lost and the church in that region.
Listening to the instrumental World of Praise CD I can still pick out the tune and sing the words as all the songs are familiar hymns.
Here is the song list from the CD:
O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus (Spain)
Jesus, Lover of My Soul (Middle-East)
Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (Appalachian)
For the Beauty of the Earth (China)
What a Friend We Have in Jesus (African)
Be Thou My Vision (East India)
I Have Decided (Greece)
My Jesus, I Love Thee (Central Asia)
O Worship the King (Ireland)
This is My Father's World (Persia)
My thoughts on the World of Praise CD:
My whole family loved it. I loved hearing the unique sounds of the unfamiliar instruments. Some I have never even heard of before this CD. (I see another study coming along with musical instruments from around the world!) Have you ever heard the music from a Daduk with sarod, tanpura, tar, Bansuri with bass tabla, ghatam, and the gu? You can hear a sample of them here. You will also hear the similar sounds of the fiddle, Spanish flamenco guitar, and an accordion. My favorites are Jesus, Lover of My Soul (Middle-East) and O Worship the King (Ireland)
I would recommend this CD whole heartily What a great way to worship, relax, and remember to pray for other believers around the world. You can listen to a sample of this CD here.
Thank you Discovery House Publishers for sending me a complementary CD for this review. My thoughts and opinions are my own and I was not asked to do a positive review.
