Yom Hazikaron 2013

Yom Hazikaron 2013 Israel Memorial Day is today April 15th. You may ask why I even acknowledge this day? I stand for Israel and I deeply appreciate how they honor their fallen soldiers.

I also acknowledge the many American soldiers who have fallen in battle on our Memorial Day. I have to say what a stark difference in the celebration. For us Americans it's a day off of work, or school, and it may me a mini vacation. We have barbecues yet I  can't  help but to wonder how many remember all those you died to give us freedom in our country.

In Israel everyone serves in the military. War is more common and with that the reality is that everyone knows someone who has lost their life in battle.Israel's Memorial Day is celebrated in a different way. I am told that the names of soldiers killed in the line of duty are listed on a TV channel all day long. Just like here in America -Israel has memorial events throughout the country. And, then there is the siren.

It's the siren that amazes me the most. It doesn't matter what people are doing they stop their activities for two minutes every year to remember those who died for their country. On the highway, stores, and everywhere.

After the sadness of Israel Memorial Day. The next day they celebrate Israel Independence Day, this small country, and her miracle existence is owed to the soldiers and her citizens who shed their blood for the price of freedom.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!

Psalm 122:6

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May those who love you be secure.
