Amish Prayers by Beverly Lewis

This small, hardback bound is a one of a kind collection of prayers used by the Amish and Mennonites since 1708.Originally printed in 1708 as Die Ernsthafte Christenpflicht  and translated from the original German to English.

The prayers are arranged by category with a table of contents at the beginning. Lovely black and white drawings scattered within the pages of this book.

These prayer are still used today by the Amish/Anabaptists. I love the fact that for over 300 years they have kept the same prayers that have been pasted down throughout the generations. I love traditions. That is what make an individual and a group of people unique. The prayers show the Amish/Mennonites devotion to God, family, and community.

Beverly Lewis added a short portion of scripture at the end that goes along with each prayer.  This book can be used for personal devotion time and would be a great tool to teach children when they are struggling with issues. With the table of contents you could look up gratitude, repentance, comfort, humility and purity of heart are just a few to choose from. After you have read the prayer in the book you can go to the scripture reference Beverly Lewis has included.

Lovely book to give as a gift or to enjoy yourself. Available as and audio CD and in Kindle.

This book has been provided to me my by Bethany House Publisher free of charge and in no way was I asked to give a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
