Record Keeping for a Special Needs Child in High School
January 29, 2018
For my special needs daughter who is in high school who is nowhere near her grade level academically has been interesting. Trying to put together accommodations for her graduation requirements has been a learning curve for me. I've always just done it and adjusted what I needed to help her academically. Putting it on paper is another thing. I read everything I could online and still felt like I wasn't getting what I needed with her. Despite all of that I was able to glean enough information to come up with a plan.
Honestly, I wasn't planning on putting together a transcript for her. I know several other parents who homeschool a special needs child and haven't done a transcript for high school. She is most likely not going to be able to go to college and will need assistance for the rest of her life with every area of her life. Then I read something about how a transcript helps with benefits if needed, job training, and other areas in her life. I haven't invested all these years in schooling her to have her at a disadvantage. She has came a long way and has surpassed my expectations, and all of her doctors. Academically she has amazed everyone.
My plan is to share with you how to put together and keeping records for a special needs child in high school. If you have some advice contact me as I'd like to interview you or have you do a guest post on my blog.
