Our home and its design can encourage spiritual growth in our hearts.

Heart and Home is a short devotional book with daily devotions for 90 days. The devotionals seek to draw clear connection between the basics of interior design and scripture that encourages spiritual growth within our hearts. The devotionals inspire women to have a captivating heart and home. Included in each devotional is an applicable design tip and photographs. Example devotional topics include unity and harmony, negative space, flow, focal point, and balance.

This devotional includes four-color photographs of home interiors throughout the book.

My Thoughts:

This is a one of a kind devotion. Probably one of the most unique ones I have encountered. This is a hardback book with 192 pages. The book is 8”x 8” and a perfect size to slip in your purse, backpack, or even a coffee table.

Each of the 90 day devotionals is on a two page spread. The left side has a picture of some design decoration element along with a few inspiring words under the photo.. On your right side it starts out with the title being some of a design element. Under the title is a scripture which follows short 2-3 paragraphs that is the devotional portion. The last section of the page has a design tip that is off to the side or at the bottom of the page. 

The devotions are based on a design element. For example on page 113 the title is “Holy Presence.” The photo on the left side has an outdoor patio setting that shows a lovely wood carved bench with colorful pillows on it. Off to the side of the bench are three potted flowers that are different heights, sizes, and colors. All the plants have different heights and colors too. The scripture is Psalms 16:11. It talks about your home being a place of joy and comfort. Then goes on that we should cultivate our heart and home that is known for joy and should be our desire here on earth and that joy and care for each other is important. The design element taking as a spiritual application is we can add all the right colors, keep the design rules but at the end of the day if there is no joy in our walls it will be for nothing. Then it ends with the design tip which is to place accessories like candles, vases, etc… in groupings.

 The photos are gorgeous. Most of the designs are neutral colors with a few of them have a bit more color. The author is into organizing and not having a lot of clutter. Which I read several times throughout the book mentioned.

The devotionals aren’t deep but decent what I like to call, “ A quick pick me up inspirational blurb.”

While, I don’t have the talent to design beautiful rooms or spaces. I liked looking at the photos throughout. Some of them are pretty practical and doable. 

As far as design elements as a devotional theme in this book I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. I’m kind of neutral but, I don’t see this as deep fill me up devotional. The devotionals are decent don’t get me wrong. Maybe if I was a person who really appreciated décor it would be different. I feel like I’m more of an organized chaos to make my home run efficiently.

Overall a beautiful book who lovely photos. Coming out this fall a new book will be released Heart & Home for Christmas.
