Week In Review-Week #20

We are in Sonlight Core C week #20

Scripture memory this week:

Galatians 6:9

Common English Bible (CEB)

9 Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up.

Bug only had her regular therapy for the week plus appointments this week. We had to help out a friend at the last minute. So it was a busy week.

Read-out-louds
We finished, "The Apprentice" We started "Michelangelo" by Diane Stanley. For our poetry "Aesop's Fables" and "A Poke in the I".

                                       Physical Education
Little Man and Bug both participated in PE this week. More than 3/4 of the class was sick so the coach asked Bug if she wanted to join today. They practiced dribbling and tossing the basketball. Next, they did some tumbling on the mats. At the end they played a game of kick ball.

Window on the World
The kids visited several cultures: Lobi, Mandinka, and the Pygmies. Very few believers in these groups due to fear of the spirits. We found the countries on the map and stamped our passports. The kids prayed for the groups to come to know Yeshua and to strengthen the believers in those tribes.

History

We are still studying the Renaissance period. We found out that the Renaissance period was born in Italy. Italy was a group of city-states. It was a revival of the Greek-Roman art period.

The Medici's family controlled Florence, Italy. Lorenzo the Magnificent as he was dubbed for his generosity, kindness, and wisdom. Unlike his son after him who destroyed the rule of Medici's. Lorenzo discovered Michelangelo talent and had him come into his home as an apprentice. Michelangelo was like a son to him and was treated well by Lorenzo.

The Pope controlled Rome, Doge and Venice.

Michelangelo was a talented artist who preferred to work alone during his various commissions. He loved doing sculptures and was his preferred choice of art.

Science
We learned about how hailstones are made, dew, and frost. Then mom remembered to pick up the Borox for our science experiment. We made snowflakes. Which I will post the pictures later in the week.

We were suppose to have a field trip to the Weather center here in Wichita but, it got cancelled. Instead we will be going to the Aviation Museum.

Language Arts, Math, and Misc Studies
What can I say about the rest of the studies this week. We got very little done on paper this week. We ended up using the iPad at the various appointments since I didn't realize this week would get so crazy. We did our math facts on the iPad. I had the kids practice their reading on some of the books I had on it. We did spelling crosswords, phonics, math and word bingo.  We even did geography playing Stack the States and Stack the Countries. I am grateful that we had the iPad because, it would of not happened due to the last minute stuff that came up.

Monday I let Little Man slide on doing his school work at the hospital. Thinking we had plenty of time this week to accomplish it. NOT so! He works so hard on Mondays I like to give him a break some days. When I do let him slide on Mondays he usually watches cartoons and plays his Leapsters or now its the iPad. I didn't have my Princess2 daycare girl on Monday so we snuggled a lot and watched cartoons in the waiting room. Which I am okay with, as that is the joy of homeschooling. Just letting life happen and knowing that it will still be there. Trying not to stress out about it on my end. Sometimes the little things are more important-like snuggling!
