Week In Review-Week #30

We are in Sonlight Core C week #30. 

Scripture memory this week: 

We reviewed all previous learned scriptures.

Bible

We are still doing "The Narrow Way" by the Parables. This last week we have added Passover events into our study.

Read-Out-Louds

Our read-out-loud this week is, "Striking it Rich The Story of the  California Gold Rush" by Stephen Krensky, "Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel", "P is for Passover" by Tanya Lee Stone, "This is the Matzah" by Abby Levine, "Jewish Days and Holidays" by Greer Fay Cashman the section on Passover, and lastly which we still are reading is, "The Passover Next Door" by David & Betty Weinberger.  We read and cuddle a lot last week on the couch.

 Physical Education
  

PE this week Little Man played baseball while Bug got adventurous and tried climbing trees. Then her foot got stuck and mom had to climb up one to help her down. Luckily for me it wasn't to far up. Needless to say she is done with tree climbing.

 Therapy and Appointments

Bug had speech, occupational, and physical therapy this last week.

 Then we found out that someone offered Bug a fully paid scholarship for horse therapy for the next 7 weeks. Bug was excited.  Yea! This is such a blessing I am so grateful.

Window on the World

I skipped this this week because of our schedule this week.  I was not prepared as much as usual to take it further into each culture. The kids told me they would rather just skip it this week instead of just reading the book. 

History & Geography

This week we learned about the 1849 gold rush in California. We have a planned panning for gold activity when time permits. We watched a video about the gold rush of 1849. Learned that gold was found at Sutter's Mill on the American River. California was just purchased from Mexico and had only been part of the United States for a few months after the Mexican War ended. Little was known about California. The population was small and scattered. Mostly made up of natives of the region.

This week was busy with the preparation of Passover.

We also did a lot of reviewing of Passover to prepare the kids for the Passover Seder we had on Friday evening. We talked about what they would see on the Seder plate and what each item meant. We looked at Yeshua and his last Passover supper.

This Year was Bug's first time to sit through the Seder. It was quite hard for her but she did it with out too many tears. Lots of sensory issues going on and then add a busy room of 230+ people.

Bug worked on her Life Pac on the unit of California. Little Man worked on naming the continents and the ocean bodies.

Lastly we talked the Great Plains Indians and made tepees. I got this set from Rainbow Resources for just $1.50.

 Our course my boy, had other ideas about what else a tepee could be used for!

Then I brought out the figures so we could have imaginary play. Our favorite thing in our homeschool is different figures that go along with what we are learning.

 Language Arts, Math, and Misc Studies 

We managed to accomplish what needed to be done in language arts and math. I am always grateful that we finish what needs to be done. Granted we don't always get art and music and other items done here lately. The business will pass.

Science 

Didn't get done this week either. Two sad faces on my kid's end. Mine also because I love science.

That gives me an excuse to do some science this summer outside.
