Week In Review-Week #14-2012-2013

We are in Sonlight Core D week #14

Scripture Memory this week:
Exodus 3:15, and Matthew 19:19.

Bible

We have been in the book of Shemoth which is the book of Exodus. We are also doing some studies from," Proverbs People".

Read-Out-Louds

We are reading, "Johnny Tremain" by Esther Hoskins Forbes. We also read a book from our favorite series, "You Wouldn't Want to Sail on the Mayflower" by Peter Cook.

For our poetry, "A Child's Introduction To Poetry" by Michael Driscoll and we finished reading " Dancing Teepee"s, by Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve.

Physical Education

We have put PE on hold this semester so we can catch our breath after so much busyness.
Little Man is doing karate and with both kids we are doing stretching, jump roping, scooters, and what ever fun stuff we can think of.
Therapy and Appointments

Bug didn't have her speech, occupational, and physical therapy this week.It was a nice break this week from the therapy. Bug had  her Horse Therapy this week.

American Indian Prayer Guide

We have been praying and learning about the Iroquoist Indian tribe.

We located the tribe's area on the map and stamped our passports.

History & Geography
We are in the Colonial days of America. Leading up to the events before the Boston Tea Party.
We made canoes out of a hobby kit that we picked up at Hobby Lobby. Played with our Indian figures with the canoes.
I had to help the kids with sewing the canoes together. It was an easy and fun craft.

We have also been sailing the high seas and have had some fun with pirates. We are in the process of building a wooden pirate ship. Hopefully we will have it done next week.
We did a Pirate Map from a map book, "Interactive Maps"
Such a serious face. We had a little sibling attitude with one another. Bug said something ugly to him as I was snapping the picture. We had fun decorating the Colonial Flag.
The kids are learning which states are the 13 Colonies.
Bug's flag all decorated and she decided to copy her brothers saluting the flag.
Can you tell we are still having one of those days with that frown on her face.
We marked the 13 Colonies in our Passport Book.
Next we located the Colonies on the map and marked the states.

Language Arts, Math, and Misc Studies
Little Man is learning place values with RightStart Math.
He wasn't learning the concept so well at first so I pulled out a dry erase place value board. I used it with the place value cards from RightStart Math.

I think he is expressing himself with the subject.(still the same day of all the arguing with his sister.)
He is getting it after several problems.
Bug is working hard on her math.

We had a Hebrew class start outside of our home this week and the kids had fun with another teacher. We are planning on doing this once a week. I am still teaching the kids Biblical Hebrew at home. This week we started on the vowels and reading a little more.

The kids read the Torah Scroll at our Messianic Synagogue for the first time this last week. The scroll is around 300-400 years old and has no vowels. Wow, that is a big accomplishment.

 Science

Science hasn't been done here lately. I put it on the side burner. Science is a subject that I enjoy doing with the kids. I just haven't been able to get it together this year. I think I am not liking the Sonlight Science this year as much as we have in the pass. We haven't done much in experiments and the book reading is just not as fun when it comes to science. Usually, I can put things together to make the book learning with science more hands on. I don't know maybe it is more of a time crunch and I am too exhausted to make it more this year.

I am glad this week is over. I was expecting a nice week and accomplishing more than what we did. It was just one of those weeks rare weeks that I dream of running out and chasing the yellow school buses that come by our house daily. You ever have one of those weeks?  We all have bad days, and weeks. Just because they are kids doesn't mean they aren't allowed to have bad days or a bad week. It just wore this mom out. Blessings
