Refusing to Sleep

Little Man has declared that he can no longer sleep in the night. He told me that," he is going to start living life as a nocturnal animal does". Well as you can imagine that didn't go over well with this mom. It did make me chuckle at his wit- only after he was asleep. What will he think of next!

He must of listened to in our science lesson at the beginning of the year about nocturnal animals. His plan was to watch the house while we sleep. He wouldn't be able to do school or any of the regular day time activities. Needless to say snuggling with mom did the trick and he feel to sleep and all hopes of becoming nocturnal vanished with sleep in the night.

Yawning Sirens

Last night when Bug and I got home from entomology Little Man was very tired and wanted me to go cuddle with him for awhile while he fell asleep. So while we are snuggling in his bed he kept yawning. I told him, "I guess you are sleeping you can't stop yawning." He informed me that, "he is so sleepy that his sleepiness is causing his yawning sirens to keep going off." I  had to laugh and hug my son a little tighter. How adorable is that-yawning sirens!

False Alarm

Little Man yesterday came running downstairs yesterday yelling, "MOMMY!", "Hurry this is really bad, I see smoke coming out of our house! We are on fire!"

I run upstairs with all the kids in tow. It was just air coming out of the dryer vent. We had a really chilly day yesterday. He told me, "I'm sorry mommy. I was walking back downstairs and I seen all this smoke coming from downstairs and I thought my family was going to get hurt." I think he was a little embarrassed.

We just read about fire safety awhile back. I explained to him, "that it was okay and that he did the right thing." I would rather him yell fire and be wrong and not just assume it was okay and it was actually a fire." I told him that he better never do it as a joke and have everyone run upstairs as a prank. He is my prankster and likes to kid around a lot.

Then it ended in a mini science lesson about what happens when warm and cold air come together.  I am happy to say that we still have a warm home to enjoy today with a working dryer.

Apple Pie or Caramel Apples

Bug always walks to her own beat. Really not caring what others think or say. She just makes me laugh and smile. It even worries me at times because I never know what will come out of her mouth. Just when I think I know what she will say she throws in a curve ball.

Last night we went to our first club meeting for 4-H. During introduction of the newbies they had a survey going for fun. The question was. "which one do you like better apple pie or caramel apples? Anyone who knows Bug knows that she is pretty picky. I thought she would just tell everyone that she doesn't like either one. It was her turn and she introduces herself loud and clear and says, "I like macaroni and cheese" The whole room just laughs at her comment. After the meeting was finished she is warmly welcomed by several kids.

Bug is just a classic. She is the one that just makes me snicker. She is an original-one of a kind gal. I just love it. I hope that she is always that way-not afraid to share her heart and to the world. She is just honest to the tee and would never dream of just saying something to satisfy the crowd. I guess as an eight year old it is cute. Not so sure how it will look like as she turns into a teen! I may hope that she won't be so vocal. Only time will tell if I still feel that way in a few years. Have a blessed week.

The Lord is One

I love the things that come out of my kids mouth. Those words are so precious at times. It just touches my heart the things that they say. This has been one that I will tuck away in my heart for years to come.

Daddy was asking the kids how old is the Lord. This is what transpired out of this conversation.

Little Man replied, "Daddy he is one."

Daddy says," son he is not one years old."

Little Man says, "Daddy when we say the Shema it says, "Hear, O Israel The LORD our God is one"

How can you debate with the mind of a 5 year old who has memorized the scripture and taken it literaly!

We recite the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) every morning and evening in English and Hebrew.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:  And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.   And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:   And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.   And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.   And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates

Do your Kids See you Reading your Bible?

I am not asking if you read your bible but do your kids see you reading the Word daily? I am up early in morning to make my beloved his lunch everyday. On the weekdays around 4:30 AM :0(. After he has left to go to work I will come downstairs and sit at the desk and read my bible. It is so quite, no kids needing my attention, no phones ringing, and none of the daily distractions. It is a time for me to have some quite time to study and pray.
The kids will get their devotions and bible time at the beginning of each school day. We encourage them to look at the word throughout the day. Even if they can't read well enough. It is good training for them. Every night before bed one of use will sit down and read with them again. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

Those days that I don't get up early I can feel my peace being zapped away. I have tried to read/study later in the day, it just doesn't happen the way I like it to or I am so distracted that I couldn't tell you what I just read. I pray throughout the day and will look at a verse or two.
We teach our kids to always be in the Word but, it dawned on me that they don't see me doing it. They don't know that I am up at the crack of dawn reading or after they have gone to bed. I tell them I do every morning. Actions speak louder than words! Aren't we suppose to be an example to them.
Awhile back Bug told someone that Daddy watches a lot of t.v. as soon as he gets home from work- so he watches a lot of t.v. This person knows that we are not big t.v. watchers. Not that we don't watch t.v. What Bug wasn't seeing is that Daddy is coming home from work tired. I still have my daycare girls who are waiting to be picked up and I am trying to get dinner ready. He has learned that if he stays upstairs that it gets crazier for some reason. I have a bad habit of handing him my daycare princes 2 to help out. Not that he minds but he has not had a chance to unwind from his day. So, he goes downstairs to turn on the local news or sees what is going on in the world on Fox News. That is usually for a half and hour. Bug is Daddy's girl and she usually joins him. In her eyes his actions are that the first thing he does is turn on the t.v. first every day after work. Wow, those actions have spoken pretty loud. So he has changed that routine. He doesn't want her to think that the t.v. is his priority.

I have made a point to grab my bible everyday and let them see me read. I have to say I don't know what I am reading sometimes. I think I get distracted too easy. How much more important it is to let them see us as their parents in action. Those actions I have found speak pretty loud. May the Lord bless you and keep you this day and make His face shine upon you.

Bad Dog

Our dog tried to devour a 6 pack of toilet paper. I think he was protesting that the baby gate was closed and he couldn't come downstairs. Needless to say he was sent outside with his tail in between in legs.

This is Rascal. My beloved husband brought him home a couple of months ago. It was a very frigid night and my husband was leaving church and the dog came running up to him and was shivering so bad that Jeff brought him home. We searched for the owner with no results.

He's a friendly puppy. The kids are crazy about him. He just has a knack for chewing up odd things. He actually has been pretty good with this after getting himself in trouble numerous times. Until, last night. He got a pack out of the bathroom. My house looked like it got tee peed. Bad  dog! Little Man was concerned that we were going to still use it in the bathroom for wiping!

Wisdom of 5 year old eaching 8 year old-Potty Training

Sometimes things come out of your kids mouth that are a little shocking. Well, even comical the more you think about it.

Little Man took it upon himself to teach his big sister who is 8, how to know when to go potty. Bug is still in diapers due to low muscle tone. She doesn't feel when she has to go to the bathroom.

Here is how the conversation went.

Little Man-"Bug you know how I know when I have to go to the bathroom. You see my brain tells my tummy, that tells my bottom that I have to go. I then go to the toilet. So, I listen to my brain tell my tummy that tells my bottom that I have to go. That is how I do it. Now, I know you don't have a brain." (Luckily for him Bug didn't get it and it went right over her head. She would of probably punched him if she understood his statement)

Daddy had a talk to him and had to explain that she does indeed have a brain. He wasn't being mean. He is my logical kid who likes to explain things and how they work. He is always asking how questions. He truly wanted to help her go potty. The more I thought about how in the world he came up with this I remembered a conversation we had in the past few weeks. He had asked me, "how do I know I have to go to the potty?" I told him something simple like, "your tummy feels it" Little Man said, "I know that but how does it feel it" I then went on explaining something about how are brain is a messenger to the rest of our body that tells it things to do.

Their you have it, she must not have a brain in his eyes because it doesn't speak to her to go potty or something along that line. Well, okay maybe its not really wisdom. In his eyes he was giving her advice on his experience of his limited time of going to the bathroom. This all from a 5 year old who we struggled with potty training. Then learning why he didn't want to go potty. He didn't want to be a big boy because he would have to take care of his big sister. After we found that out he was pretty much potty trained that very same week. Little does he realize it he is taking care of her in his own special way.

Bug told him thanks after his serious heart to heart talk. A few hours later she sat on the toilet and came running to her brother and said, "I listened to my brain talk and I went to the toilet and nothing came out."
Don't you just love it? Have a blessed day.

Why is their a rock in the bathroom mom?

My kids always amuse me with the things that they say. I just love the crazy things that come out of there mouths. Usually they are being serious and asking question and not even trying to be cute or funny.

We where out and about and Little Man had to make a pit stop. I reminded him to wash his hands afterwards. He goes to the sink and says, "mom why is there a rock in the bathroom?" I look over and am not catching on to the rock thing. I told him again to, "just wash your hands." Little Man says,"with what mom?" I say with "the bar of soap sitting there buddy." But mom this is a rock!" It finally dawned on me that he is use to using liquid soap and he doesn't see the bar soap that daddy keeps up on the shelf in the shower.

Don't you just love it. Then of course he is full of questions about how I knew what it was. I explained to him when I was a kid that we only used the bar soap. Now he wants me to put a bar in our bathroom at home. Sigh, I told him I prefer the liquid at home to wash hands. Little Man, " Oh mom, it would be so fun to have soap that looks like a rock!" May the Lord bless you and keep you today.
