Ozark Mountain Motorcars by Isaac ben Levi Book Review

The Ozark Mountain Railroad has a problem. They need another passenger train, but they can't afford to buy a new one! Then, one of the OMRR's locomotives remembers an old friend of his... a railway motorcar who hasn't turned his wheels in years. But he's for sale, and cheap, too. My thoughts:

This is book 4 in the “Classic Train Stories.” I haven’t read any of the other books in this series. I was able to follow along the story line without any problems. It sounds like some of the trains have stories in the previous book.

Any kid who loves trains this will be a huge hit for them. Age group would probably be closer to 7 and up if they are reading by themselves. The story is historical  that is based off real stories off of real events in the Ozark Mountain Railroad.  The illustrations are fun and realistic in beautiful watercolor illustrations throughout. I like that the train numbers are authentic.

The trains talk to one another along with the owner of the OMRR Company. The owner needs to figure out a way to create shorter lines for the customers. He doesn’t have the money to spend a lot on an additional train to make it happen after fixing up Turbo. One of the trains, “Jack” tells the owner about “The Blue Geese” and the railway motorcars. The owner runs off to the office to investigate.

The new train thinks he is going to become spare parts or cut up. He soon finds out that he is going to play a valuable part in the OMRR family.

I love the manners, kindness, and the family atmosphere displayed in the story. All of them are a beautiful reminder of how G-d wants use to act towards one another. The story not only teaches you about trains but how we should act towards one another. 

The author also manages to tell the story of a real historical story from the Boone County Historical and Railroad Society.

The back of the book as a very detailed an interesting glossary of the terms used. I found this very useful. You could go off on a rabbit trail if you wanted to learn more from the book.
