The Happy Crab by Layla & Kevin Palmer Book Review
Happy
is an adventurous little crab whose world is suddenly turned upside down
(literally!) when a mama and her son discover his large, unbroken shell while
on vacation at the beach. After deciding to keep the shell as a souvenir,
the boy unexpectedly feels the
crab move inside and is suddenly faced with a
decision: take him home or let him go. His compassion for the crab and
thoughtful decision to release him gently reminds readers of the importance
of selflessness and highlight how our environment, relationships,
and experiences contribute greatly to our happiness.
My Thoughts:
What a sweet story. I
love children’s books. The sweet and beautiful illustrations throughout the
book are fun to explore. Your little ones will love all the colors of the
ocean, beach, and of ocean creatures.
The book is illustrated by Guy Wolek and he does a beautiful job with the ocean and sea animals. The pictures are wonderful.
The little crab is full
of spunk and adventure as he explores his beloved ocean with his friends. He
goes to Haiti on the back of a whale. He finds a buried treasure in Pensacola
Beach. He surfs the waves, watches friends build sand castles-life is good!
One day, while he is taking his nap, tucked soundly in his perfect shell he is taken out of his beloved
water. The people are admiring his perfect shell and want to take him home. He
is scared and feels helpless because the sea is his home and all his friends
are there.
The little boy eventually
sees his little legs and eventually realizes that he must take him back where
they found him but first he names the crab-Happy.
This is a beautiful story
of compassion and doing the right thing. This would make a wonderful gift for a
little one and be a beautiful addition to your book collection.
