My Thoughts:
I enjoy children books and sharing them with my kids. I especially
like it when we are learning something new. I’ve heard of Joseph Cornell prior
to this book. I was just unfamiliar with his art or life.
The illustrations are intriguing and colorful. There is
something to explore on every page. The story is a biography of Joseph Cornell’s
childhood and how he started collecting things that he thought was interesting.
He wasn’t quite sure what he was going to do with all of his collection that
grew over the years in the family’s garage. Then the tragedy of the death of
his father changed his life. He wanted to make his family happy and put
together an art show for his family from his collection.
The back of the book has a brief autobiography of Joseph
Cornell along with some pictures of his creations. Joseph Cornell made shadow
boxes come alive in a variety of unique masterpieces. He was an artist that thought
outside of a box of a canvas. He displayed a unique collection in shadow boxes.
This would make a great book to add to your library as you
are learning about American artist.
