Painted Butterfly Garden
July 23, 2010
We had a lot of fun watching our caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies. As you can imagine this was a big hit around our home. This time the critters were welcomed into the home much to my Bug's delight. We bought this from Insect Lore. We had five butterflies in all. I have a feeling that this will be a summer time regular from now on. Which is good. We all enjoyed it. We did a life cycle book on butterflies from Enchanted Learning.
We are releasing the butterflies, which proved to be quiet a task. I assumed we would just open the net and they would fly out pretty quick. I had to shake the net to get some of them out. I even had to put my hand inside the net and have them crawl on my fingers to get two of them out. Would of been a neat picture with them on my hand but, the kids don't know how to work the camera.
These two butterflies are the ones that I had to have them crawl on my hand. Then I placed them on the flower brush. What a beautiful picture. This one is my favorite one.
The butterflies stayed for awhile. We sat down and enjoyed watching them for a long time. Little Man go bored after around ten minutes and well Bug I had to pull her away after 30 minutes. I convinced her some how that they were scared to leave with us around. It worked and she wanted to go back to the brush for several days to see if they would return.
