Week in Review -Week #11-2013-2014
November 01, 2013
We are in Sonlight American History Part 2
Scripture memory verse is:
Review of previously learned scriptures.
We are in II Samuel
We are doing a study form the book," Proverbs People" We are learning about the sluggard and how the ant is wise.
This week we read, The Chalk Box Kid" by Clyde Robert Bulla.
At the kids request we are reading, "Young Indiana Jones and the Plantation Treasure" by William McCay.
For Poetry we are reading, "The Oxford Illustrated Book of American Children's Poems" by Donald Hall.
Little Man didn't go to PE this week because Mom was feeling under the weather and I didn't want to sit outside on a cold afternoon.
Little Man had karate this week.
Bug had Speech Therapy only this week. We had no other appointments this week. It was nice to just stay home.
Black gold was one of the many topics this week. We learned about the mining process of oil and what it was for. Including medicine! Yuk!
The kids also learned about assembly lines. The beginning of store catalogs like Montgomery Wards, and Sears.
Bug is working on math word problems. She really struggles in this area. A lot of her problems are because she has a hard time reading them. She does really well if I write out the problem for her. She gets frustrated with herself.
This has been a good week for her with her hand writing. She isn't having any pain associated with it here lately. She is still limited with how much she can do.
Little Man is learning his addition facts for the 8s and the 9s. Skip counting 2s,5s,and 10s. He gets a little irritated with finding the unknown for a math problem.(X+4-13) I think he is making it more complicated then it needs to be.
For language arts Little Man is learning about common and proper nouns. How to use a comma in a series and finding the mistakes with capital letters.
Little Man is reading a book on his own about cowboys.
We have been learning about seeds. We read, "The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree" by Gail Gibbons and "How Do Apples Grow" by Betsy Maestro.
We dissected an apple, pumpkin seed, and a pine cone.
The kids also learned that seeds come in every shape and size. We looked at a poster of varies types of seeds and learned how they are scattered in many different ways.
Bug finished Cap IT! Level 1 this week. We have been hitting the vowels hard this last week.
I will start on the next level next week. She was so proud of herself for completing this level. We used the toys from Level 2 to help her with the sounds. She had lots of fun with them also.
Little Man is working hard with Hebrew. He is blending the words with much better as they are flowing easier and his confidence in his ability to read Hebrew is improving. His reading is as choppy as it us to be. Little Man is half way through Cap IT! Level 2.
We are doing two lessons each day and every other day we do a review of all the Power Cards we have done so far.
