Pirates on the Farm by Denette Fretz Book Review
January 27, 2014
“No one ever imagined that five swashbuckling
pirates would settle in our proper little southern community. But they did.”
When pirates move in next door, life on the
farm is bound to get interesting. But will the unadventurous Sanders family be
able to handle the pirates’ bad manners, ghastly grub, and outrageous antics?
Or will they learn the importance of loving one’s neighbor and help the
graceless pirates find their “land legs”?
My Thoughts:
What a fun book for a child who loves
pirates. This books message is from Luke 10 talking about, “Loving your
neighbor.” The neighbors next to the pirates are about to get tested in what it
means to truly love your neighbor.
My kids pointed out that the family had
to really show God’s love and live by example to reach those pirates. Very true as they did a lot of mischief at first.
The illustrations are fun and eye
catching. The story is silly which is what makes the book so delightful.
In the back of the book is a section for
the definitions that the pirates use. It might be more meaningful reading them
first before you read the story rather than afterwards.
A delightful story with a good message to
teach your children.
