In The Last Bride by Beverly Lewis Book Review
May 03, 2014
In The Last Bride, Lewis creatively
weaves the story of Tessie Miller. Of her Old Order parents' five daughters,
Tessie Miller is the last to marry. She has her heart set on Amishman Marcus
King, but Tessie's father opposes the match.
Impetuously, Tessie and Marcus elope to the
English world, and then return to Hickory Hollow to live as singles, trusting
they'll convince the Millers to give their love a chance over time. But when
the unthinkable happens, Tessie faces the almost-certain censure of the People.
Will she find a reason for hope in spite of her desperate plight?
Beverly Lewis, born in the heart of
Pennsylvania Dutch country, has more than 17 million books in print. Her
stories have been published in eleven languages and have regularly appeared on
numerous bestseller lists, including The New York Times and USA Today.
Seven of her blockbuster novels have received the Gold Book Award for sales
over 500,000, and The Brethren won a 2007 Christy Award for excellence
in Christian fiction. Beverly and her husband, David, live in Colorado, where
they enjoy hiking, biking, making music, and spending time with their family.
My Thoughts:
I was looking forward to the next series
in the “Home to Hickory Hollow Series” and I wasn’t disappointed. This has been
my favorite book in this series so far. I finished the book so quickly that I
was sad to see it come to an end. Beverly Lewis just knows how to grab your
attention and writes characters that you just fall in love with. She intertwines
all of her series together as you get a glimpse at beloved characters in other
series. Then again I can’t think of any books that I didn’t enjoy by Beverly
Lewis!
I
think that it was the characters that just tugged at my heart. Tessie who was
deeply in love with Marcus and she couldn’t understand why her father forbid
them to get married. Little did she know that her father had his own secrets
that brought fear into his heart that blinded him to how unhappy he was making
his daughter’s by handpicking their future husbands.
Tessie and Marcus choose to go against
her father’s wishes. In the end she had to face some consequences that she
would have never imagined. Suddenly she found herself alone with her secrets
and only God to guide her through this dark time. God made her morning into to
dancing and brought new life to her heart.
I loved watching Tessie’s sister Mary find
love with her handpicked husband. Once she let go of her anger and let God
direct her heart to fall in love with her husband. They both found each other
during a difficult time in their marriage. So many other characters that jus
tugged at my heart you will just have to read it yourself.
Thank you Beverly Lewis for another great
book I am eagerly waiting for you next book.
