TOS Crew Review of Apologia Educational Ministries What on Earth Can I Do? Set
May 27, 2014
Are you familiar
with Apologia? Apologia EducationalMinistries has such a variety of subjects for your homeschool. They even have a
Bible Curriculum! I was excited to be chosen for this review. My family has
been using, What on Earth Can I Do?,What on Earth Can I Do? Notebooking Journal, What on Earth Can I Do? Junior Notebooking Journal, and What on EarthCan I Do? Coloring Book.
What on Earth Can I Do Set is recommended
for grade 1-6.
What on Earth Can I Do? Is a hardback book
with 294 pages in this beautifully illustrated book. The focus of the book is, “How
do we fit in the Masters plan in our world”? The main backdrop is on World War
II and focuses on stewardship. This is the core book of the What on Earth Can I
Do? There are 8 lessons which are broken down in several key components.
The Big Idea
What You Will Do
Short Story
Think About it
Words You Need to Know
Hide it in Your Heart
Integrated Learning
What Should I Do
Prayer
Parables of Jesus
Going Deeper
House of Truth
You can go at your own pace as the
lessons are very flexible to fit in your schedule. They have a reasonable lesson
plan included in the book which is around three weeks per lesson, two days a
week.
What on Earth Can I Do? Notebooking Journal is a soft covered spiral bound book. It includes activities that go
along with What on Earth Can I Do? This notebook will have questions that the
student needs to write down, vocabulary, copy work of varies scriptures, mini
books, word searches, and additional resources to search out to go deeper on
the subject.
What on Earth Can I Do? Junior Notebooking Journal is a soft covered spiral bound book. It has a lot of the same components as the other notebook
journal but is geared more towards the younger elementary grades with larger
print and lined paper to write on. Fill in the blank questions, coloring pages,
word and crossword puzzles, mini books, and copy work of scriptures.
What on Earth Can I Do? Coloring Book has
64 coloring pages of both biblical events, historical, and character traits. Each
page had either a scripture verse of a general saying. This book would be for
lower elementary kids who enjoy coloring. The coloring pages are very detailed.
How did I use What on Earth Can I Do? In our
homeschool?
This year we have been studying World War
II so it has been a nice complement to our other studies. We did the studies 4
times a week and we went at our own pace. We finished almost 4 lessons during
this review period.
For the What on Earth Can I Do? Notebooking Journal we did it
orally as I thought it was a tad bit advanced for my children to do by
themselves. My fifth grader with her physical challenges would have a hard time
with the writing lessons and the space provided. We had some wonderful
discussions with the questions. I don’t shy away from the Holocaust.
For the What on Earth Can I Do? Junior Notebooking Journal my
kids took turns doing various activities in the book or they wrote on paper the
scripture. This broke up the activities with coloring and puzzles. Then we
finished up with a mini book after each lesson. Neither one of my children are big
on writing. My son is just a typical boy and my daughter has physical limitations
so I really appreciated all the variety included in the notebooks.
There is a lot of reading and the activities
in the notebooks and the coloring book were nice. I let them color or do some
of the activities in the notebooks while I read to them.
My Final Thoughts:
I cannot begin to say enough of wonderful
things about, What on Earth Can I Do? Series. I haven’t used any of the
previous books from this series. This is the forth in the series. I would recommend
the journals and coloring books it’s worth the extra cost. They add a lot to
the program.
This is a Biblically sound program with a
Christian worldview that I highly recommend. This is truly an amazing program
to add to your family devotional. I look forward to adding the other, ‘What We
Believe Series” into my homeschool resource.
My family loves history and the kids
loved it. That says a lot to a mom when the kids are excited to do a program.
