Honey by David Ezra Book Review
April 02, 2018
This sweet companion to David Ezra Stein's award-winning Leaves celebrates the joy of savoring something you love.
Bear is ravenous when he wakes up from his winter sleep and has one thing on his mind: honey! Alas, it is too soon for honey, so Bear tries hard to be patient. The world around him is waking up, too, and he soon remembers all the other things he loves, like warm grass, berries, and rain. He's almost content, until, one day, he hears a welcome buzzing sound . . . and finally it is time for Bear to delight in the thing he relishes above all others--and it is as warm, golden, sweet, and good as he remembered.
My Thoughts:
This is a follow up book of the adorable bear from “Leaves”.
This time instead of him seeing leaves fall for the first time his adventure
takes him on an adventure of a bear’s favorite sweet treat-HONEY. Thankfully,
we don’t have to worry about bears in the Midwest with our beehives!
This adorable hardback book is for 2-5 year olds. With 32
pages the illustrations are whimsical that look like water colors. There is only
a sentence or two on each page, which is perfect for a bedtime story or for
young readers.
After a long sleep he starts scraping around for food and
then he remembers something special-HONEY. Bears adventure begins as he enjoys
spring in the air. A crisp creek, sunlight, wonderful smells of flowers. They
he sees a honeybee buzzing by. Except its only spring and the honey isn’t
ready. Bears adventure begins as he explores the world around him until the
honey is ready. The wait and the stings are so worth it! SWEET GOLDEN HONEY.
What a fun book. Of course I’m a bit partial to honey bees
as a beekeeper. I really appreciate the story line as I can truly relate as we
wait for the honey to be ready to harvest each year. That harvesting of honey
usually comes with a price of a few painful bee stings. Oh but it is so good to
have that sweet golden HONEY.
A wonderful and sweet story that I would recommend.
