Indescribable: 100 Devotions for Kids About God and Science By Louie Giglio Book Review and GIVEAWAY
December 04, 2017
It’s
impossible to out-imagine God. He orchestrates time, creates light, and speaks
things into existence—from the largest stars to the smallest starfish. God is a
powerful, purposeful, personal, unparalleled Creator.
Psalm
19:1 says, “The heavens tell the glory of God. And the skies announce what his
hands have made.”
Indescribable
displays the majesty of creation with scientific findings, photography, and
original illustrations. These 100 devotions encourage awe at God’s creativity
with an in-depth look at
•
Space, Galaxies, Planets, and Stars
•
Earth, Geology, Oceans, and Weather
•
Animals—from Hummingbirds to Dinosaurs
• Our
Minds, Bodies, and Imaginations
Each
devotion features a “Be Amazed” section with fascinating facts, hands-on
activities, and a closing prayer. Based on Louie Giglio’s popular messages
“Indescribable” and “How Great Is Our God,” Indescribable: 100 Devotions About
God & Science will help kids discover the incredible creation of our
indescribable God.
About
the Author:
Pastor
and author Louie Giglio invites kids to think about the questions they
encounter in day-to-day life and to find God’s glory in creation in his
first-ever children’s book, Indescribable.
My Thoughts:
I was really excited to come across Indescribable: 100
Devotions for Kids About God and Science. Usually most devotions out there are
more appealing to girls. This one can will appeal to either boys or girls. I
know that my son will enjoy this devotional. Science is a favorite subject in
my home and I love it when I can weave God’s word with science together.
Indescribable is a hardback book with 100 devotions within
this 207 page book. The illustrations are full colored with photos and
cartoonish illustrations throughout the book. There is a presentation page and a table of
contents at the being of the book.
Each of the devotionals is covered on a 2 page spread. The
devotions are centered on different scientific subjects. There is truly a topic
to appeal to your interest from dinosaurs, geology, animals, entomology, space,
and so much more.
To give you an idea of what one of the topics looks like I
will tell you about one of them. One of the devotion is: Beautiful and
Unbreakable” It starts out with 2 Corinthians 4:8. It goes in details about a
diamond explaining how it is the hardest natural substance that we know of and
some of the uses that we use diamonds for. How is the diamond made with a bit
of information on the element from the periodical table and how the diamond was
made in the earth. Then it gives a life application and how this applies to you
and for this topic it talks about being in a dark place due to being stressed
or feeling like you have a lot of pressure. It encourages you to not give up as
God is making something beautiful out of those stressful moments and not to
give up. As He will not let you be crushed
but, will make you stronger and teach you to depend on Him if you let
Him.
Each devotional has a Be Amazed which it gives you facts and
details about the topic. This particular one talks about the diamond being
measured in a carat, what the biggest diamond ever found is and where it was
found.
Then it ends with a prayer. Every devotional has the same format.
All the topics are mixed up throughout the devotional. You
can use the devotional going by days or you can focus on certain topic by
skipping around. There is a reference page that covers the four major topics. The four major topics are Space, Earth, Animals, and People. This is a neat reference as a homeschool mom I could add the devotionals as we are studying these topics in school.
This is a unique devotional that will be engaging to my son
and I’m sure that we will have many engaging conversations about the topics
beyond the pages of this book. What a wonderful way to share God’s creation and
our faith with our children.
I hope to see more devotionals like this in the future. I’m
really impressed with this and l can’t wait to hand it over to my son.
