Schedule changes
August 27, 2010
Changing my Schedule a few days after I had completed it was not something I had expected to do so soon. Usually, after a few weeks I find that I need to adjust somethings that are not working. Most of the time it is because I over schedule or a curriculum is not working for us.
All I can say to this change is Praise the Lord! HE is so good. My daughter has received a paid scholarship for eye vision therapy. This was something I had applied for in March. I figured that we just didn't get. I was even feeling a little disappointed about even being able to do any vision therapy and figured it was not going to happen. I could not see how in the world we could come up with $4,000.-$8,000. I was putting the situation in my own hands. Vision therapy is something that most insurance do not cover. Bug's eyes are considered pretty severe. When we did the evaluation for seeing if she would benefit for vision therapy I was informed that they don't usually grant scholarships for her vision problem. Most children only need one session which last for a few months-that would be the $4,000. They felt that she would more than likely need two sessions-which is where the higher figure comes from. When I received the phone call this week they told me that they would start out with the first session and then go from there.
Now, you are wondering how in the world this effects my school schedule? Not enough of time in the day to get it all done. My schedule is only 3-4 hours at the most. One day a week we are at two different hospitals for Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. Now, we have to add two days a week for the Vision Therapy(and required homework a few times a week) and on one of those days we will be rushing to our homeschool physical education class. That only gives me three full school days and that doesn't count any homeschool event with our support group. The other two days we are home very late in the afternoon. I was already planning to do some school work with Little Man and Princess at the hospital and hopefully I will be able to do some at the Vision Therapy office. I think I am going to just at first focus on the basic with Bug. Reading, writing, math, phonics and some Language arts. I had planned state history, word roots, art, music and a few things to throw in every other week. I will see how it goes and see what I can add on. I am thinking that I will do the remaining seven weeks we paid for PE and then take a break from it until we are done with the vision therapy.
The last two years I have done a four day schedule. Bug functions better early in the day and when we get past a certain time it just doesn't get done. She just seems to not be able to put it all together. That is the great thing about homeschooling. I can schedule around things and if I have to do catch up in the summer it isn't a big deal. I am so thankful to my Savior for this. I took my eyes off of Him for this situation and He still was showed such compassion to HIS child. Have a blessed day.
