ScriptureDoodle and ScriptureDoodle God’s Promises by April Knight Book Review
December 16, 2016
With
inspiring exercises and prompts, this unique interactive guide introduces
readers to a creative connection between Bible study, artistic expression, and
worship.
Often,
in the busyness of life, Christians forget that God created them to enjoy
creativity. With guided instruction and completed examples, this beautiful book
invites readers to draw closer to God through their own art.
More
than a coloring book, ScriptureDoodle
is a combination of Bible study, creative expression, and artistic community
with artwork shared online at #scripturedoodle. Exploring topics such as being
generous, finding rest, and facing grief, ScriptureDoodle gives the
heart the creative space it needs. This book stimulates the reader's
imagination and helps integrate God's Word into everyday life.
ScriptureDoodle God's Promises
refreshes believers who are feeling burned out or stuck in a rut in their
relationship with God. Each of the creative worship prompts in this interactive
guide includes biblical encouragement and ideas for worship through art. Artist
April Knight includes creative lettering tips, color ideas, and completed
examples to inspire readers to respond to promises in Scripture related to
trust, faith, and the power of God's Word in all circumstances.
This unique blend of Bible study and creative expression provides the opportunity to connect with God as Creator in a new, life-changing way.

My Thoughts:
What
a creative idea for scripture devotional books. Both of these are a six-week
devotional.
Each
book has a nice introduction along with information on “How to use these books”.
Some unique features and a first I have seen in the adult coloring books is a
lot of art tips and techniques like “Basic Materials and Coloring Tips”. This
section shows you the coloring wheel. There is a 2 page section on how to
overlap your colors in creating your masterpieces. Along with color value and
how to make some of your colors light and darker.
What
about blending your colors together while coloring the pages or leaving some
white space to make your art pop and the proper technique to achieve an even
tone when coloring.
Some
basic supplies are recommended to work through your six-week devotional. Pencils,
a variety of colored ball point pens, a pencil sharpener, a large eraser,
colored pencils, pastels, ruled notebook paper, and index cards. Some markers,
felt tip pens, and gel pens may bleed through according to the author. You can
test first and see which ones may work for you. She also recommends trying some
water coloring pencils or brush pens.
For
those of you who love to write pretty letters or like me wish you could write
letters that look pretty well there is a section on creating letters. Each book
has a different letter font to learn. There is so much more in these.
The
book is an 8.5”x 10.5” book. It’s a nice size for creating. The pages don’t all
lay flat so you will have to manipulative the pages to lay flat but, not of the
art goes into the fold. I would love to see the pages perforated to rip out and
add into a notebook. That’s just because I like to have my books lay flat while
coloring.
Every
devotional is laid out on a two page spread. With the page on the left devoted
to the devotional that includes the scripture verse, and some thought provoking
questions to do some heart searching. Some have a few smaller coloring parts or
you could create your own. The page on the right is for being creative. There
is a variety of things from you just coloring, finishing the picture, or adding
some of your own art to the book.
Each book has a theme. The ScriptureDoodle is a plethora of topics but they all blend in together nicely.

As
you can see each book covers different topics. These would make a nice
devotional for a tween or teen. They are thought provoking and are a great way
to get them to search out God’s Word. Of course they are great for us adults too. These
are nice devotionals for those who like to doodle and be creative while studying God's Word.
