Master Kitz The Starry Night Review
November 05, 2018
I love seeing my kids create masterpieces and they like art
quite a bit. It’s just the older my kids get the more I seem to neglect art
projects. With all the other subjects for my teens art doesn't happen often. Recently, my daughter created a masterpiece with Kidzaw.com and their Master Kitz The Starry Night. You can find out more about this homeschool art kit on the website.
Kidzaw.com is created for ages 5 and up. Even adults can create a masterpiece with this kit. Kidzaw.com has other kits available to purchase also. I love that everything you need is in the kit other than tape and newspaper. If you have younger kids then a t-shirt or smock to protect their clothes.
Your kids can create the famous masterpiece from Vincent van Gogh. Master Kitz The Starry Night is a great addition if your learning about an artist, art history or just for fun. The kit has enough to do it with 2 students.

1
van Gogh information sheet
The acrylic paint and oil pastel sticks are kid friendly and wash off fairly easily. We’ve use a lot of oil pastels that don’t come off your hands right away. I have a daughter with special needs and she tends to wear her art supplies for several days. I also didn’t clean off the table she painted on the same day. It wiped up easily with soap and water the next day.

The van Gogh information sheet has a brief biography about
his life as a child and an adult. We learned that he created and art style
called, “Post-Impressionism.” He didn’t become famous until after his death.
The sheet also has some interesting information on his artistic style. I liked
that this information is included in the kit. It’s enough information for
younger kids and has some pictures to keep their attention. There is enough information
to take it further with older kids. This would make a great unit study.
I had my 16 year old daughter use the Master Kitz The Starry Night. I originally planned on my son doing this also but, with his trip to Israel he had too much to get done.

A nice sturdy package for the Master Kitz The Starry Night
kit.
The supplies are packaged nicely.
All the essentials you need to create your masterpiece.
You will need to tape down the paper to the table before you begin.
You will need to tape down the paper to the table before you begin.
Bug applied the “Mesmerizing Star” sticker to the top half of
the paper.
Using the blue acrylic paint we rolled the van Gogh stencil
roller over the whole paper.
Next using the same plate as the blue acrylic we added the
white acrylic paint and used the same van Gogh stencil roller over the paper.
You don’t need to wash it before this step.
She pulled off the stickers from the painting. We had a
tough time getting the stickers off but, I think my daughter used a lot of pressure
when she put them on the sheet. I suggest that you don’t press them down so
hard. My daughter tends to press things down!
Then
Bug lined up the Starry Night Cyprus Stencil with the top part of the stencil
lining up with the top of the paper. She taped the stencil down.
Next
you use the foam paint roller and your acrylic black paint. She rolled it over
the open space on the stencil. I had to help her a bit here as our tape wasn’t
sticking very well.
You
can see that after we removed the stencils we are left with a black silhouette.
Now you just let it dry for 5 to 10 minutes.
She
colored her stars using the oil pastels. My daughter choose to use the color
pattern in the instruction of using yellow, orange, and white and used a
circular motion and blended some areas with her fingers. She also went into the
acrylic paint and blended the oil pastels.
She
used all the oil pastels with painting the stenciled area to make some depth
into the painting.
My daughter’s thoughts:
“This was a lot of fun. I didn’t think I could create a picture that resembled Vincent van Gogh.” “I was able to do 95% of this by myself.” “The instructions are real easy to understand and not complicated. I really dislike projects that you have to keep reading the steps over and over.” “I really thought that the van Gogh roller was awesome. I liked the effect that it made on the paper.” I like that the stickers you could pull them off and make the stars shine.”
Bug informed me, “That she put the other sets on her wish list.” She found the sets online and tagged them in her wish list!
Mom’s thoughts:
This was really great for my daughter. She struggles with art with her special needs and reading ability. For her to be able to operate all the elements in this kit was nice. The handles were easy for her to grasp with her arthritis. Usually, I need to help her out with projects from start to finish. If it wasn’t for the review and taking pictures I wouldn’t have needed to even be in the room with her. Reading the steps and having the detailed pictures was easy for her to create this project.
I love that everything is included in the kit and that it can be used twice with the same student or with another one. This was a lot of fun and most of all I enjoyed seeing my daughter get excited with the final results. A neat homeschool art craft for your home.
