Fermentools Review
I received this
complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew
Fermentools helped me to have the confidence to start fermenting my own foods. I received a starter kit and have enjoyed being able to ferment different types of foods.
Fermentools was established by Cassie and Alex Deputie in 2013. The family is very passionate about eating healthy and promoting a healthy lifestyle. If you’re looking at trying to live a healthier life fermented foods is a good place to start.

1 Glass
Fermentation Weight

Guide
You will need to provide a wide mouth canning jar. If you don’t have a wide mouth canning jar you can use other sizes as long as your weight fits in the jar.
Fermentools products are sourced and made in the USA. All your tools can be stored in a canvas drawstring bag.
Salt plays an important part in the fermenting process and Fermentools uses Himalayan Powdered Salt. 1 lb of Ancient Himalayan Salt. The salt is very fine and has been formulated to dissolve in cold water.
The package is a vacuum sealed bag. The conversion measurements are included for your brine solution in 2%, 3.5%, and 10%. One side has the percentage for pint, quart, and gallon. The other side of the bag has the conversion to convert it to TBS or tsp. The measurements are only for this salt as the weight of different salts can vary.
Stainless Steel Lid is made from a 304 surgical stainless steel. What that means for you is that it is corrosion resistant and can be easily cleaned. The lid is also dishwasher safe.
The Glass Fermentation Weight is for large mouth canning jars. The edges are made with smooth edges. The glass is made of soda-lime glass.
The Air Lock is a one way valve that will allow the gases from the fermenting to escape but not let the air in. It can easily be taken apart and cleaned.
The Rubber Stopper will fit nicely into the Stainless Steel Lid and you put the Air Lock into the hole. You will put your Rubber Canning Gasket on your jar. The gasket is eco-friendly and made form the tattler of reusable canning lids.
One of my favorite salads is Israeli Salad. I make it often in my house. Sometimes I ferment it and other times I prefer the veggies to be crisper. This delicious salad only takes a day or two, depending on your preference. I chopped up all the tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley, purple onion, and grated lemon. I added pepper, poppy seeds, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard. After it fermented for two days I add a bit of olive oil and serve.
During the fermented process I checked the jar the first day remove any vegetables that may have floated to the top. I also smell and make sure it doesn’t smell funky. Your food should be completely submerged in the brine solution to prevent molding.
I made pickles which came out delicious and didn’t last long once they were done. I like crisp pickles and only fermented it less than a week.
Another favorite is sauerkraut. I also made two types of sauerkraut, the basic sauerkraut and the sunset sauerkraut. I make sauerkraut regularly, but this time neither one came out. I think I used to much salt and was rushing. I will blame it on the chaos of the construction going on in my house. When my kitchen gets done I plan on making sauerkraut again. I like having it in my refrigerator and grabbing a spoonful daily or add it to my meal.
The last time we reviewed Fermentools we studied about the science behind fermenting foods. I planned on doing it this time around but, my house has been torn apart. This is a great way to learn some fun chemistry in your homeschool too. You can teach your kids some kitchen skills and about healthy foods. You can read my last review here.
