College Launch Solution from The HomeScholar LLC Review
I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew
My homeschool journey is getting closer to being finished. I graduated my special needs daughter last spring and my son is entering his sophomore year. What a difference both kids have been in their high school years. My daughter will not go onto college but my son is starting his dual-credit high school classes this week.
Getting my son ready for a future with college seems like a daunting task. College Launch Solution from The HomeScholar LLC came at the perfect time in my homeschool journey.
College Launch Solution is another great resource from Lee Binz. She has put together an affordable program that lets you as a parent guide your kids like a college counselor from the comfort of your home. Everything is all in one place for you to have the resources at the tip of your fingers. It will save you countless hours searching online or buying multiple books to read. You will have lifetime access to be used with each of your children and you have a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Once you have access to your account you will go to your dashboard. The dashboard has all your membership subscriptions on it. I have several subscriptions already. I click on the College Launch Solution. Once I have opened the area you will see five tabs: Teen Overview, Parent Overview, Be the Counselor and Coach, Understand Admission and Scholarships.
The Teen Overview has two Webinars. The webinars have a PDF workbook, audio, and course slides. All the material is the same other than a different format.
College Admission Seminar for Teens is around 3 ½ hour video. It is recommended you print out your PDF workbook so you can follow along and fill in the information. All the information is concise and clear. The webinar is broken up into 12 parts covering College Application Process, Understanding Test, How to Study for Test, How to Get College Scholarships, How to Find Colleges to Visit, How to Visit Colleges, College Fairs, How to Select Where to Apply, How to Complete Application Forms, How to Get a Letter of Recommendation, How to Write Application Essays, How to Interview, and How to Choose a College to Attend.
Just to highlight a few things that stuck out for my son. Going over the different tests. It made my son understand what test would work best for him.
My son watched this over several days with me. We didn't do it in one sitting. He kept track of the time stamp and could easily pick it up at another time. He had his PDF at hand and worked on it through the webinar.
The 10 Critical Cs for College and Career webinar is a little over an hour. My son explained, “that this was impressing the college to accept you and or the employer to hire you”. He said, “think of it as a pep talk about being your best”.
The 10 C’s are courage, connect, color, communication, copy, content, convince, contribute, commit, and community. My son liked the “colorful” as it focuses on being yourself and not someone you aren’t. He likes the cookie-cutter analogy that Lee Binz says often. Another area he mentioned to me was the copy section. He said, “I better watch that as I like detail and can easily repeat myself on an essay application”.
Another feature for The Teen Overview is reading material, “How to Win a Scholarship Competition”. This article within the website that talks about being prepared, plan ahead, college interview questions, and other information. Information about what the scholarship competition looks like with stories of individuals and writing thank you cards. My son read over this area with me and we talked about it. I think he feels a bit overwhelmed and thinks that college is way too complicated than it needs to be!
Parent Overview tab has one webinar Real Fast College Applications. This goes over some steps for preparing for college from looking for a college, the application, and so on. A shorter version of the student overview but directed to the parent. The information was helpful and I gleaned the information that I need for my son.
I liked the College Prep Plan PDFs. It has several PDFs- middle school and every year of high school plus a college planning schedule. It gives you a plan for each year like a to-do list and it also links to several other articles to read.
Be the Counselor and Coach tab has two webinars: The Best High School Guidance Counselor and How to be Your Child's Best College Coach. Like all other courses, it has Webinars, PDFs, audio files, and several Additional Reading articles. A lot of this was reinforcement from the Parent Overview but more concise in certain areas. Information about how you as a parent are a better guidance counselor and coach to your teens. There are many articles to assist you throughout the years leading up to college.
In conclusion, you are getting step-by-step courses to help you through college preparation. The information is a pot of gold with tips on the ACT, SAT, PSAT, scholarship paperwork, college fairs, the application process, and much more.
