By Way of the Moonlight by Elizabeth Musser Book Review

Two courageous young women, tied together by blood and shared passion, will risk everything to save what they love most.

For as long as she can remember, Allie Massey, a gifted physical therapist, has dreamed of making her grandparents’ ten-acre estate into a trauma recovery center using equine therapy—a dream her grandmother, Nana Dale, embraced wholeheartedly. But when her grandmother’s will is read, Allie is shocked to learn the property has been sold to a developer.

Decades earlier, headstrong Dale Butler’s driving passion is to bring home the prized filly her family lost to the Great Depression, but with World War II looming, she’s called upon in ways she never could have imagined. And while her world expands to include new friends and new love, tragedy strikes close to home one fateful night during the Battle of the Atlantic, changing her life forever.

As Nana Dale’s past comes to light in Allie’s search for answers, Dale’s courage and persistence may be just what Allie needs to carry on her grandmother’s legacy and keep her own dreams alive.

My Thoughts:

An interesting historical fiction that transports you back through the Great Depression and World War II to current day. This is the first book I have read by Elizabeth Musser and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

The story touches close to home with the equine therapy. Having a daughter who has done equine therapy for 13 years it touched me and pulled me into the story. Allie wants to convert her grandparents estate into an equine therapy center. She finds that the property was sold to a developer.

The WWII battles come to life with such detail you can close your eyes and envision them as the story is shared. Then you are thrown to present day with the search for treasure. Allie was surprised that Nana would have Allie’s inheritance sold upon her death. Allie thought her grandmother understood what she had dreamed of with the property. As she searches for answers she discovers that the clues lie in a small wood chest that she can’t seem to locate.

Even though the story goes into the past and them to current day with stories that are unique and interesting all by themselves. The stories weave together into a beautiful unforgettable story. A heartfelt book about faith, family, dreams, tragedy, and love.
