The Two-cent Piece Audiobook - In God We Trust Series by Dennis Conrad Book Review
About the Book
Book: The Two-Cent Piece Audiobook
Author: Dennis Conrad
Genre: Christian 1800s Historical Fiction
Release Date: August 2, 2023
Anne wonders what secret her three older brothers are hiding. When she finds out they joined to fight with the Union Army and would leave the next day, she give them each one of her favorite two-cent pieces, and says, “I want you to take one of my new two-cent pieces. I learned these coins are the first with the word ‘In God We Trust.’ I just memorized Psalm 91:2. ‘I will say to the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: My God, in him will I trust.’”
Out of a heart of love, Ann gives six of her special coins away, hoping the message on the two-cent piece will strengthen each person’s faith.

My Review:
Seven-year-old Anne is at the general store buying her brother a birthday
present. The shopkeeper notices the two-cent piece and tells her that it’s a
brand-new coin type. He also shares with her that the coin is the very first
one to have the inscription “In God We Trust”. After purchasing her
brother's gift, the shopkeeper takes her remaining coins and trades them for
five two-cent coins. He mentions a Bible passage from Acts 20:35.
A beautiful historical fiction book, you will see the faith of a
child praying for her brothers and a stranger to whom she gave her two-cent pieces
as they all go off to fight in the Civil War. She shares with them Psalms 91:2
as a reminder that God is our refuge and fortress when we put our faith in Him.
My daughter loves having her own Two-cent piece to show others along with her book. |
Back in January, we received a paperback book.
This time around we have been listening to the audiobook. I love both aspects of
a book. Having a daughter who is a struggling reader is nice having the option
of an audiobook. She enjoyed listening to the audiobook while following with
the physical copy. She is able to read the book on most days but some days she
struggles. This gives her a nice alternative backup. Through the audiobook, she
has now put the whole book to memory.
The
audiobook read nicely and the narration changed up the voice for the different
characters while reading the book. When it was time to turn the page there was
a chime sound which made it easy to follow along with the physical book. At the
end of the audiobook, there is information on collecting coins and how to find
out the value of them.
My
daughter already loved the physical book and was thrilled to have an additional
outlet for this book. She is eagerly waiting for the next book in the series.
Her already two-cent piece she has is even more special with this book.
At the
same time, her coin collection is growing a lot. She’s even saved up to buy
herself some nicer slabbed coins. She has her Redbook for coin values. The two
local coin shops in town have gotten to know her when we visit and her excitement
is contagious to all the employees and customers as she shares her knowledge.

Collecting Coins Can Change Your Life! It Did Mine…
As a child, my friends and I wanted to know everything about coins.
We learned about coins through stories: Who was on each coin? What were coins made of? How were coins made? Where were they made? Why were some more valuable than others? and How could I start collecting on my limited budget?
Coin collecting is a hobby where collectors never stop learning! For example, when I started to watch coin prices, without realizing it, I was learning basic economics.
Over the years, I kept adding to my collection. Decades passed. I attended coin conventions, read books and articles about coins, and remembered where I had found and/or acquired each coin.
One day, my wife looked at me. “Will you ever sell your coins?”
“No.”
That is when I heard God’s still small voice.
God pointed out to me that my coins had become more important than Him. Without my realizing it, my coins had become an idol.
At that time, at the top of the market, I sold my collection without regrets, and used the money to pay off my home mortgage.
Now, God has given me the privilege of writing stories about coins, and encouraging others to embrace a hobby that has given me a lifetime of joy.
Blessings to you and yours,
Dennis Conrad
