Week in Review -Week #18-19-2013-2014
December 28, 2013
We have had a good two weeks of school. With appointments being canceled due to the holidays we plunged into school and caught up in some areas.
Little Man discovered that the public school had this time off and wanted to know why we don't take it off. Since we celebrate the Biblical Holidays and not Christmas I feel that we don't need to take it off as we do take days and weeks off when needed throughout the year.
We are in Sonlight American History Part 2
Scripture Memory Verse:
Review of previous learned scriptures
We are in the book of II Kings
Read-out-Louds
We finished reading, "You Wouldn't Want to be a Skyscraper Builder! A Hazardous Job You'd Rather Not Taken" by John Malam
We finished reading, "Brave Kids True Stories from the Past Cora Frear" by Susan E. Goodman.
We are reading, "Helen Keller" by Margaret Davidson.
We read, "Pennies in a Jar" by Dori Chaconas
For poetry we are reading, "The Oxford Illustrated Book of American Children's Poems" by Donald Hall.
Little Man hasn't had any PE or karate these last two weeks.
We have had a few therapy appointments but no Dr. appointments. A nice break considering, we are going to have lots coming up in January.
Some of the highlights have been:
Little Man really enjoyed learning about bridges so we ended up doing a little unit study with bridges.
We went over the continents and oceans for review with, "Geography Songs".
We played catch up with our passport books and located the places we have visited during our studies this year.
Bug is reviewing money and fractions for math.
I put a hold on most formal math for Little Man except a money workbook we have been working on. We have been reviewing math facts while playing games. His favorite is playing catch with a bean bag while we do the facts.
Little Man is also learning about couplets and shape poems. Not is favorite and he is ready to be done with poetry forever!
Bug had entomology and was able to obtain some interesting insects into her growing collection from others in her 4-H entomology club. Now we just need to make time to pin them.
I pulled out a book on inventions this week since both kids seem to want to know more about how things are made.
We are still learning about Environmental Scientist in the area of the sun, water, and soil.
We did no formal art learning this last week.
I gave Bug a break from Hebrew so she doesn't get overwhelmed by it all. We will start back next week.
Little Man is still working on the vocabulary with Cap IT! Hebrew Level 2. We have taken the workbook and made up our own lessons. We are spending about 10 minutes with vocabulary and then reading some.
