One Sentence Storybooks by Nancy L. Sanders Book Review

This set of 10 delightful minibooks will help beginning readers recognize basic vocabulary words while learning about 10 favorite Bible stories. These creative books teach reading in the strongest way possible using repetition in a way that draws children in and brings them joy. The last word of each sentence part in the story is the featured vocabulary word on that page for a total of four featured vocabulary words for each minibook. Each page builds on the previous one both in art and text. The final illustration is always the whole scene of the story, giving an understanding of the sentence as a whole.

My Thoughts:

I am always looking for educational books to teach my children. I love it when I can find something that is Biblical. I have a child with special needs and some learning delays that affect her reading skills. I always find myself going backwards with reading when she regresses. It truly upsets her and I like little books like this to build up her confidence again until she can get back to where she was.

The set comes in a case that seals with Velcro. Inside the case are 10 small booklets. Each book has four vocabulary words. The booklets are based off the Bible and also include a prayer. The illustrations delightful and are age appropriate 3-5.

The Bible stories however are extremely watered down. Which I wish the booklets had more content to them. These little books will keep small children’s attention with their short attention span. That being said, this could be used to have them read the story to you and then open of the Bible and read the story to them. It’s a good jumping board to have a discussion of God’s word with your child.

The stories are:

The Sun and Moon

Two Mice and the Ark

Moses and the Bush

David and the Giant

The City Wall

The Star and the Kings

Jesus on the Water

The Good Shepherd

The Sad Son

The Angel and the Cave

Tyndale House Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book. In no way was I asked to give a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
