The Acid Watcher Diet by Jonathan Aviv Book Review
March 06, 2017
Do you suffer from abdominal bloating; a chronic, nagging cough or sore throat; postnasal drip; a feeling of a lump in the back of your throat; allergies; or shortness of breath?
If so, odds are that you are experiencing acid reflux without recognizing its silent symptoms, which can lead to serious long-term health problems, including esophageal cancer.
In The Acid Watcher Diet, Dr. Jonathan Aviv, a leading authority on the diagnosis and treatment of acid reflux disease, helps readers identify those often misunderstood symptoms while providing a proven solution for reducing whole-body acid damage quickly and easily. His 28-day program is part of a two-phase eating plan, with a healthy balance of both macronutrients (proteins, carbs, and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants), that works to immediately neutralize acid and relieve the inflammation at the root of acid reflux. Dr. Aviv guides readers through healthy dietary choices with targeted recipes, helping them balance their bodies and minds for optimal health and break acid-generating habits for good.
Jonathan Aviv, MD, FACS, is a world-renowned physician, surgeon, educator, and author. He is the clinical director of the Voice and Swallowing Center of ENT and Allergy Associates. He is also a clinical professor of otolaryngology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York.
My
Thoughts:
I don’t
suffer from acid reflux but, someone important to me does and it concerns me
greatly. I know that acid reflux can be dangerous if it goes unchecked.
Knowledge is powerful and I wanted to learn all I can about acid reflux so I
can help him out.
You
may not think that you suffer from acid reflux thanks to all the over the
counter antacid commercials out there. They paint a different imagine in our
minds.
Did
you know that 60,000,000 Americans have acid reflux disease? The numbers are startling and more people are
affected from acid reflux disease than heart disease, celiac disease, and
diabetes. Does that surprise you? It did surprise me. Esophageal cancer has
increased 650 fold since 1970s it’s about to be the second most common cancer
in the United States. I know two individuals myself who are currently dealing
with this ugly cancer.
Acid
reflux is more than just heart burn. Its hoarseness, a chronic nagging cough,
sore throat for no reason, lump feeling stuck in your throat, postnasal drip, allergies,
shortness of breath, and abdominal bloating. Many people never have heart burn symptoms
and it makes many people go undiagnosed. These symptoms surprised me.
The
book is broken down in three parts:
Part
I: Acid Disruption and Your Diet.
This first
part is going to educate you with symptoms and give you knowledge to hopefully
take action. There are four chapters to Part I.
Part
II: Food and Lifestyle Prescriptions.
This
is the part we don’t like to hear as we Americans enjoy our foods. How does
certain foods damage and create acid? What types of food heal our acid damage? There
are four chapters to Part II.
Part
III: The 28-Day Blueprint for Reducing Acid Damage, Revving Up Metabolism, and
Staying Healthy For Life.
This
portion is dedicated to a plan. What can you do to help yourself? If you’re
concerned then you have an action plan that is step by step healing phase.
There are meal planners along with recipes. It’s not only 28 days of living an
reflux free life and what you need to do after the first 28 days.
This
is a wonderful book that has a lot of information. It’s easy to read and it’s
down to earth with expectations to help you. This is something that a person
can do if they want to get serious about acid reflux. In no way does this
replace a doctor if you’re having these symptoms. You still need to go see a
doctor.
I would
recommend this book 100%.
