6th Grade Curriculum Choices
August 28, 2017
After a busy summer we are getting ready to start our official 2017-2018 school year today. I look forward to having a schedule to go by. I haven’t had much time for blogging this last summer as we have had a lot of things going on.
It’s hard to believe that my son is now officially in Middle
School and a few months away from being 12! School is going to be changing for
him a lot this year. He’s growing up fast and I’m proud of the young man he is
becoming.
I have created a notebook for him this coming year. This is
both his and my official training of getting ready for doing transcripts and
keeping grades. This year I will be playing around and tweaking how I keep
records with him.
This is what I tentatively have planned for him this year.
He will be expected to be more independent in some areas. I will still do one
on one with him in certain subjects and he still has some areas that we will do
together as a family.
We read the Bible together at the start of our school day.
We are also going to finish up The Gospels Drive thru
History with Dave Stotts. You can see my review here.
A Boy After God’s Own Heart by Jim George and when he’s done
with that he will do God’s Crime Scene For Kids by J. Warner and Susie Wallace.
I’ll link to my review when it goes up.
Math is my dreaded subject but, Little Man is extremely good
with math. He has his dad’s aptitude with math and can figure out problems
quickly in his head. I have a hard time finding a program that fits his needs
and I tend to blend several programs together and hand him over to Dad to do
some math.
Little Man has a few lessons
left from Teaching Textbooks left from last year. I found that Teaching
Textbook was too easy for him and we ended up adding a lot of reviews into his
schedule. Regardless, I wanted to finish Teaching Textbooks up.
We will finish up Unlock Math from a review last year. I
will also use Math U See and Math Mammoth- here's my review.
IEW Poetry you can read my review here.
Bob Jones Writing and Grammar
Pirate Guide t’ th’ Grammar Story. You can read my review here.
I like that the following curriculum are short assignments that
cover many concepts in bit size daily assignments.
