I’m getting ready to start of another year with The Homeschool Review Crew.
What better way to get started then to tell you about SchoolhouseTeachers.com
and their Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership.
SchoolhouseTeachers.com is an online membership subscription for everyone
in your family. One price covers everyone in your family. All the courses are
from a Christian Worldview. What always amazes me is that SchoolhouseTeachers.com
is always expanding and keeps getting better.
This is an all-in-one curriculum that you can build your own curriculum to
fit your homeschool. You can use this as a full curriculum or as a supplement. You
can access everything 24/7. You can download curriculum or print it. You also
have several videos for several subjects throughout the site to enhance your
curriculum. You can adapt to your kids learning style easily. You are not
limited to how many children in this curriculum which makes this a very
economical solution for your family.
If you’re not sure where to start planning I would suggest that look at the
Scope & Sequence either by grade or subject. Or you can just browse the
toolbar tabs by grade or subject.
There are several subjects: art, Bible, math, computer and technology,
electives, foreign language, geography, health and fitness, history, language
arts, music, science, social studies, unit studies, and I’m sure I’m missing a
few things in the list. You don’t need to buy any textbooks to add to the
courses.
SchoolhouseTeachers.com has over 460 courses. That is a lot of bang for
your budget. Right now till
the end of January you can join SchoolhouseTeachers.com for $99 a year with
coupon code: ONLY99 or you can pay monthly fee of $12 using coupon code: ONLY12.
A few highlights I want to point out:
Lesson Plans: I appreciate the lesson plans. I don’t have to plan a thing
and yet it’s flexible to work with my homeschool schedule.
Rightnow Media is just one perk of your subscription |
Video Library: Another feature is an extensive Video Library from Rightnow
Media. I’m not just talking about a few videos or one or two subjects. They
have videos for teens, Bible studies, women and men topics, funny video clips, adulting,
history, worship, science, and much more. You can add the videos to a queue to
watch later.
A lot of helpful charts for your homeschool! |
Focused Learning Centers: Homeschooling is tough and we all need help once
in awhile on this journey. Whether it is math, reading, special needs, high
school, multiplication facts encouragement and even parenting. This resource
will point you to additional help and narrows down your field for searching
throughout the website.
Literacy Center: If you need to start teaching your kid to read, remedial
help, fluent readers. There is a downloadable PDF to determine your child’s reading
level with a guided assessment. Throughout the PDF you can click on a link to
take you to more resources. It also includes teaching reading, hands on
activities and other resources for reading.
The Literacy Center has downloadable books for Kindergarten through 4th
grade.
10 Libraries of World Book |
World Book: Is an online encyclopedia that you can use for research and to
dig deeper in any topic for your homeschool.
Several Planners for you to download & Print |
Planner: There are downloadable planners, weekly and monthly calendars. You
can even do your homeschool record keeping with Applecore and keep track of
grades, scheduling, attendance, and transcripts.
There is so much more from printable certificates, unit studies, and other
resources. You can bookmark within the site. It’s a homeschool mom’s candy
store and each year it keeps getting better. I have only scratched the surface of
all the resources within this site.
How did I use SchoolhouseTeachers.com in my homeschool?
This year I focused on some electives for my kids. My son (8th
grade) and I pulled up the electives by grade. My son has been interested in
architect and computers for awhile. He wanted to do “Introduction to Architecture” first and I plan on having him work on some of the “Computer and
Technology” later on. They have courses on typing, Word, Excel, podcasting, and
much more.
My son is reading a lesson from "Introductions to Architecture" |
I downloaded the “Introduction to Architecture” to his computer after we
determined he was interested in it after doing a few lessons first. I choose to
download all 37 lessons at once but, you can download it by individual lessons.
The lesson is 246 pages. There is a lesson planner for use to keep track of the
course and breaks down the lesson step by step. It is intended for grades 6th
through 12th grade. You can also print off a certificate of
completion at the conclusion of the course. (Other courses have a certificate
too.)
Keep track of your lessons. Finished vocabulary worksheet |
My son checks off each day what he completed. This has a suggested 3 days a
week lessons for 37 weeks. Our scheduled varied a bit. His goal is to try and
finish up the course this school year.
Example of worksheet for "Introduction to Architecture" |
Weekly Planner for "Introduction to Architecture" |
Each lesson has a schedule telling him what to read, activities, videos, map
work, and other assignments. I print out the weekly Lesson Planner for him and
any the weekly assignments. Currently he is reading the course on his computer.
With all the links this is a better fit for him. I have the option to print out
the course and put it in a binder. Throughout the course it has links, full
colored illustrations, vocabulary words, timeline, and other assignments. There
are book suggestions to go with the study.
There is an answer key that is in each lesson for use to check his work.
He is learning about an array of building structures from ancient to modern
structures. The last lesson goes over what an architect does, pay, skills
needed, and a few other things if you have a child who is interested in this career
option. There is also another course for architecture, “Hands on Architecture” for
grades 3rd through 7th. My son still wants to go through it.
Bug enjoying "Drive Thru History: American History" |
My 11th grade daughter has learning challenges. We decided to
add in the “Drive Thru History: American History” to go with her government studies
this year. She loves the videos and they have been a good fit to go along with
her current curriculum. This also has a lesson plan and comprehensive worksheets,
and quiz for each video lesson. Due to my daughter’s learning challenges I didn’t
utilize these. Several of the courses have self-grading quizzes.
I have been looking over the resources for high school on the “Focus on
High School and College” section for my kids. A lot of helpful information to
get me prepared for my son who is fast approaching high school and my daughter
who is almost at the end of school.
SchoolhouseTeachers.com is a great
resource that is flexible, affordable, and a wealth of resources to use in your
homeschool.
